What you'll do
Step into the exclusive recording studio of hip hop DJ, composer, and producer Burt Blackarach and get a crash course in the art of DJing.
You'll learn the basics of how to DJ—including handling vinyl, turntable 101, scratching, and more—according to your skill level. As you practice, gain insight into the industry with behind-the-scenes stories about magical production sessions, discover what it's like to tour the world performing as a DJ, and learn how Burt started his vinyl collection—14,000 records and counting.
Finally, dig through Burt's personal collection of vinyl for free records to take home. There, you will find true gems from the 1940's - 1990's.
This is a group class. up to 5 others may be joining you.
Your day will take place at the private recording studio of Hip Hop DJ, composer and producer, Burt Blackarach. Many legendary musicians and DJs have walked through his doors. There, you'll learn the basics of DJing, including handling vinyl, transitioning songs, scratching and more -- depending on your skill level. You'll "talk shop" with Burt including behind-the-scenes stories about magical production sessions, what it's like to tour the world and how he got his vinyl collection—14,000 records and counting. To end the day, you will dig through Burt's personal collection for a goodie you should have in your stash!
This is an intimate group class of 6 or less.
As a music geek, I absolutely loved the time we spent in Burt's studio. From the gear and record filled space itself, to Burt's stories and insider knowledge from a decades-long music career (the family business), and of course the main event learning to – properly – DJ and scratch. Highly recommend it for beginners and practitioners alike.
